My Ancient Faith Today Interview now available as a podcast

On Tuesday, August 4 at 9pm ET I joined Fr Tom Soroka on Ancient Faith Today for a Live Interview and Call-In Discussion on Reaching Muslims with the Gospel.

The hour flew by, and we enjoyed a wide ranging conversation with some very thoughtful questions from listeners which helped lead us into further deep reflections on this important topic.

LISTEN:
Ancient Faith Today Live - Reaching Muslims with the Gospel

Fr Tom and I have been friends for over thirty years, and it was a joy and an honor to join him on one AFR's flagship internet radio shows to discuss our hope "that none would perish, but that all might be saved and come to the knowledge of the Truth" which is in Christ Jesus.

This was the third of a three-part series on Islam-related topics on Ancient Faith Today Live. Listen to the other two podcasts here:

Extended Interview with Raymond Ibrahim on Islam, by Hank Hanegraaf

This is an outstanding, "Ultimate" interview with Raymond Ibrahim, author of 'Crucified Again - Exposing Islam's New War On Christians', 'The Al Qaeda Reader', and a new book scheduled for 2018, 'Sword and Scimitar'.

Hanegraaf lets Raymond really explore the topics, which results in a riveting, wide-ranging discussion, with Raymond being able to stretch out and make a compelling presentation based on his many years of research.

It's a long interview (more than 90 minutes), but well worth it. Raymond Ibrahim continues to elevate his stature as one of the great Christian scholars on the Islamic threat.

St Vladimir's Seminary — You should invite this man and give him an honorary PhD and have him give a keynote address on Orthodoxy and Islam.

Money quotes:

  • "If Allah is God, then he's schizophrenic."
  • "The early Christians... were scandalized when they finally got the Koran and Muhammad's biography, saying basically, 'What sort of a God is this, that exists to validate this man's primordial and savage impulses?'"

From Hank Hanegraaf's podcast site:

This week, Hank is joined on Hank Unplugged by Middle East expert Raymond Ibrahim to discuss the stark reality of Islamic issues faced by the world today in context with historical analysis, not the least of them being the Muslim genocide and persecution of Christians.

Topics discussed include:

  • the West actively undermining itself and the reality of Islam (6:00);
  • the aberration of labeling Islam as one of the Abrahamic faiths (10:00);
  • the difference between Mohammed and Christ (13:30);
  • is the Allah of Islam the God of the Bible? (19:30)

The Cross and the Crescent - 2-Part AUDIO PODCAST

I am in the process of listening to this excellent presentation by Fr. Josiah Trenham of Patristic Nectar Publications, and strongly recommend it. It is long, two parts, each over an hour in length... Perhaps an excellent opportunity for parish study groups.

Ancient Faith Interview: Islam through the heart and mind of a convert to Orthodox Christianity - Part 1

This is a very knowledgeable, in-depth interview with "George," who converted to Islam as a teen, studied at a madrassa (an Islamic school), memorized portions of the Qur'an, studied the hadith and Sira, and by God's grace eventually found his way to the True Faith, to the Holy Orthodox Church.

Excellent and informed questions from Kevin Allen.
Very much looking forward to Part 2.

Islamic Sharia Law in America: An Orthodox Christian Perspective (AUDIO)

Not integrating well into Western Civilization. Notice the black flags of jihad.
This is a very challenging talk by Fr Josiah Trenham, providing an in-depth look at Islam and sharia throughout history and in America today. Fr. Josiah also contrasts the threat from sharia with the threat from secularism, homosexualism, etc.

Though I agree with much of what Fr. Josiah says, including his warning that we are facing these threats because we have allowed ourselves to be co-opted by the world, and have become too interested in our own comfort and prosperity, I most adamantly disagree with his belief that we can partner with Muslims against the pressures of secularism, and that the United States should enable the implementation of Islamic sharia law for religious matters. Sharia never stops at merely "religious matters," as can be seen in the implementation of sharia courts in the UK.

Interview with Rick Wiles of TruNews Radio

I was honored to be Rick Wiles' guest for a lengthy and far-ranging interview on TruNews Radio earlier today. Links below to play in browser or to download.

We discussed the Muslim persecution of Christians, Orthodox Russia, Obama as the anti-Constantine out to repeal the Edict of Milan, and issues of eschatology and prophecy. Rick and I immediately struck up a great rapport, and I believe it was a good opportunity to introduce an Orthodox Christian perspective to his large listening audience.

Fr Peter Alban Heers: Podcasts on New Martyr Fr. Daniil Sysoev

In March 2011, Fr Peter Alban Heers devoted two of his podcasts, Postcards from Greece, on Ancient Faith Radio, to discussing Fr. Daniil Sysoev of Moscow and his dynamic missionary program. As a follow up to these talks, in April 2011 Fr. Peter responded to a question raised by a listener about saints in the Church.

I have included the transcript for the third podcast below. If anyone is eager to help support the work of Ancient Faith Radio (and help spread the teachings and veneration of Fr Daniil Sysoev in the process), you can sponsor transcripts for the March 17 and March 23 podcasts. Just visit those pages and click on the Sponsor Transcript links to start the process. Costs are $13.50 and $20.25 respectively.

_____

March 17, 2011 Length: 17:26
Father Peter spoke to a gathering of clergy and lay people in Athens recently and pointed to the witness of the new martyr of Moscow, the missionary priest Father Daniel Sysoev, as a model for mission work today. Father Daniel walked the "Royal Path" of the Church, avoiding two extremes, that of indifference to the person from the right and indifference to the Truth from the left.

'Do Not Be Hearers Only' - Podcasts and Recordings of Father Seraphim Rose

* September 2 is the anniversary of the repose of Hieromonk Seraphim Rose. I plan to post extensively on Father Seraphim throughout this week.

UPDATED 9/5/2013, 6:30PM EDT

If there is any danger in venerating the saints, it is that we may become a little complacent about our heroes. But the goal of the Christian Life is not hero worship, but theosis, to become "partakers of the divine nature" (2 Peter 1:4), through the acquisition of the Holy Spirit.

The Christian life is always tied to the practice of it, which includes ascetical efforts (prayer, prostrations, fasting), charitable acts (almsgiving), and heeding the call to "deny oneself, take up one's cross, and follow Christ." This is what makes the saints stand out, and it is what we are to be mindful of when we venerate the saints. They show us it is possible to repent, deny ourselves, persevere, be faithful, love God, and love our neighbor. And they exhort us to follow them and join them in the heavenly realm.

For this posting during the Week of Blessed Hieromonk Seraphim of Platina, I've selected a number of special recordings to rouse us all to acts of faith. Except for Living the Orthodox Worldview, most of these are available as MP3 downloads. Play in your browser, or download to your iPod, computer or other device.

_______

God's Revelation to the Human Heart
MP3, Play in Browser, 1 hr, 10 min.
The introduction and first several minutes of the recording are read by a monk of St Herman Monastery, then Fr Seraphim's voice completes the recording. This is a very unique and much beloved talk of Father Seraphim's.

“When conversion takes place, the process of revelation occurs in a very simple way—a person is in need, he suffers, and then somehow the other world opens up. The more you are in suffering and difficulties and are ‘desperate’ for God, the more He is going to come to your aid, reveal Who He is and show you the way out.…”
—Fr. Seraphim Rose

 What does man seek in religion, and what should he seek in it? How does God reveal Himself in order to bring man to a knowledge of the Truth? How does suffering help this revelation to occur? Fr. Seraphim Rose addressed these and other issues during a lecture at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1981. GOD’S REVELATION TO THE HUMAN HEART is a transcription of that lecture, together with the question-and-answer session that followed between Fr. Seraphim and the university students.

Drawing upon a wealth of sources—the Holy Scriptures, patristic writings, the Lives of ancient and modern saints, and accounts of persecuted Christians in today’s world—Fr. Seraphim leads the audience to the core of all Christian life: the conversion of the heart of man, which begins to burn with love for Christ and transforms one into a new being.

Transcript

Living the Orthodox Worldview is a recording of a lecture given by Fr. Seraphim Rose at the 1982 St. Herman Pilgrimage at the St. Herman Monastery in Platina California. It was the final pastoral talk of Fr. Seraphim's life, the fruit of his spiritual growth as an Orthodox Christian and his matured outlook as an Orthodox pastor. It contains many of the themes that he emphasized during the final years of his life, especially the need to have one's Orthodox Faith enter into and transform the whole of one's existence. This recording also gives ample evidence to Father Seraphim's pastoral warmth, and his gentle sense of humor.

AUDIO: Rod Dreher on The Challenges of Modern Islam and What the Media Aren’t Telling Us

Here's a legacy interview from 2007 for your Sunday listening pleasure and edification. Mr. Dreher gets a little too "nuanced" (for my taste) towards the end, regarding the immediate causes of Islamic terrorist attacks, but overall he is rock solid on Islamic supremacism and jihad, and how deeply entrenched it is in U.S. mosques, and he backs up his assessments with both journalistic research and personal anecdotes.

Highly recommended!
