for  FACING ISLAM

“Sidway’s writing is an eloquent plea for the people of God to take an honest look at the teachings and history of Islam, and should compel every conscientious Orthodox Christian to know and understand the teachings of Christ and do the will of God... to pray for Muslims, befriend them, genuinely love them, and desire to share the truth of the Gospel of Christ with them in due time.”

~ From the Foreword by Fr. Thomas Soroka, Pastor of St Nicholas Orthodox Church, Pittsburgh PA, host of The Path and Sermons from St Nicholas podcasts on Ancient Faith Radio.

“In a time of uncritical ‘interfaith dialogues’ between Christians and Muslims, FACING ISLAM is a book that hearkens to the olden days of Christianity, when Christians clung tenaciously to their faith and saw dialogue primarily as a way of furthering the truth, not as a way, as many Christians see it, of creating peace and tolerance in the now—which, ironically, isn't, as Sidway shows, even effective to that end.”

~ Raymond Ibrahim, Associate Fellow of the Middle East Forum, author of Crucified Again - Exposing Islam's New War on Christianity, and editor/translator of The Al Qaeda Reader.

“FACING ISLAM is a valuable contribution to the contemporary Orthodox understanding of Islam. Orthodox Christians—indeed, everyone—will benefit from Ralph Sidway's lucid presentation of the major moving parts of Islam and the modern myths surrounding it. Far from the ‘religion of peace’ of today's politically correct parlance, Islam is a violent, expansionary ideology that has sought to conquer, subdue, and destroy the Orthodox Church from its very beginnings. Mr Sidway's presentation of the Church's best scholarship on Islam is a badly needed dose of reality for Christians inclined to make their peace with the religion of Muhammad. Orthodox Christians must be prepared to witness to their Church's unique holiness and be ready to denounce false religions that would detract from Her enduring sanctity.”

~ Gregory M. Davis, Orthodox Christian writer, author of Religion of Peace? Islam's War Against the World, producer of the documentary film, Islam: What the West Needs to Know.

“An excellent evaluation of historic and contemporary Islam, this book is neither hysterical nor mushy. It raises and faces the questions we must ask and, for most, will provide new insights and historical information. Highly recommended, especially for those who live in environments where contact with Muslims is common.”

~ Fr. Gregory Williams, St John of Kronstadt Press, Liberty TN.

“In the midst of the 1980’s when I was recently converted to Orthodoxy and was a student at the Holy Cross Seminary, Brookline, MA, I told several friends of mine about Islam, but no one seemed to be interested. They thought it was only problems somewhere else but not here on American soil. But many times I said to them that ‘Islam is coming, it will be too late if you don’t learn and do anything about it right now.’ When 9/11 happened I was doing missionary work in my country; immediately I knew that this event was of the kind that I had been telling those friends about before.

“The concerns of FACING ISLAM by Ralph H. Sidway are not fanatical and bigoted ideas born out of hatred and narrow mindedness, but it is a wake up call—for all Christians and everyone who believes in freedom, democracy and human values—on the nature of Islam. This book does not call us to hate Muslims; after all, Christians are not called to hate anyone, Muslims or otherwise. But it helps us to see that Islam is unlike any other religion where spirituality and morality are the main concern, while Church and State are separated, and it appeals to us what we have to do about it.

“Islam is a religio-socio-political whole where every department of life, including politics and state-law, are regulated by the dictate of religious law (the sharia). No good Muslim will be happy when they are in majority not to implement this religious law, because it is the teaching of Islam that Muslims must ‘fight them (the unbelievers) until faithlessness is no more and religion becomes (exclusively) for Allah’ (Qur’an 2:193, trans. Ali Quli Qara’i). And that Allah sent Muhammad with the religion of Islam, so that ‘He may make it prevail over all religions’ (Qur’an 48:28). Islam claims an exclusive right to exist, where it commands that its followers, ‘Fight those who do not have faith in Allah nor (believe) in the Last Day, nor forbid what Allah and His Apostle have forbidden nor practice the true religion (i.e. Islam), from among those who were given the Book (i.e. Jews andChristians) until they pay tribute out of hands (the jizya), and they be humiliated’ (Qur’an 9:29).

“It is this dangerous teaching of Islam that FACING ISLAM is trying to make us aware of. If my warning in the 1980’s was not given any attention, I hope that this book will find a good hearing from the American public.

"For thousands of years my country (Indonesia) was a Hindu Buddhist kingdom. The last Hindu king was kind enough to give a tax exempt property for the first Muslim missionary to live and to preach his religion. Slowly the followers of the new religion were growing, and after they became so strong the kingdom was attacked, those who refused to become Muslims had to flee for their life to the neighboring island of Bali or to a high mountain of Tengger, where they have been able to keep their religion until now. Slowly from the Hindu Buddhist Kingdom, Indonesia became the largest Islamic country in the world. If there is any lesson to be learnt by Americans at all, the history of my country is worth pondering upon. We are not hate mongering, bigoted people; rather, we are freedom loving, democracy loving and human loving people. We just don’t want this freedom and democracy to be taken away from us by our ignorance and misguided ‘political correctness’, and the pretension of tolerance. I recommend the book FACING ISLAM for all those who want to know more about Islam.”

~ Archimandrite Daniel Byantoro, convert from Islam to Orthodox Christianity, founder of the Indonesian Orthodox Mission.
