'First they came for Tommy Robinson...'

The UK arrested, charged, tried, convicted, and sentenced Tommy Robinson in one hour. The UK judge presiding slapped a gag order on the press. These are the actions of a totalitarian regime, one which, in this case, seems to have sold its soul to Islam.

I was immediately reminded of the poem, 'First they came...' Written by the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller (†1984), the spare verse exposes the cowardice of German Christians and intellectuals during the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis to power:

Engraving of the poem 'First they came...' at the New England Holocaust Memorial, Boston MA.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics, and I did not speak up—
Because I was not a Catholic.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Since I blog about Islam (strike one), and am an Orthodox Christian (strike two), I expect in the not too distant future to find myself a target of the police and surveillance forces of the Dystopian States of America, I resolved not to remain silent about Tommy Robinson's case. Time to speak out.

Here in the USA, we have some vestigial recognition of Freedom of Speech (and Freedom of Religion), though it is under severe assault, and is being eradicated through generational displacement, as revealed by polls of college graduates over the last decade or more, who believe speech should be limited.

But in the UK, free speech is dead. The silencing of Tommy Robinson, whatever one thinks of his politics, persona, and approach, is its most recent and startling sign.

Several perceptive articles have drawn out the implications of the Soviet-style fast-track eradication of Robinson. Here are a few excerpts with links back to the original sites, all highly recommended:

The disappearance of Tommy Robinson: What his arrest tells us about UK’s slide toward totalitarianism

LeoHohmann.com - Mr Hohmann focuses on an article by Edward Cline at Rule of Reason (who cites the ever incisive and quotable Mark Steyn). An excerpt:

Robinson was taken with the government\judicial tool of a “bill of attainder,” which one legal site site defines as: A legislative act that singles out an individual or group for punishment without a trial.
The Free Legal Dictionary notes:
"A special legislative enactment that imposes a death sentence without a judicial trial upon a particular person or class of persons suspected of committing serious offenses, such as Treason or a felony."
A bill of attainder is prohibited by Article I, Section 9, Clause 3 of the U.S. Constitution because it deprives the person or persons singled out for punishment of the safeguards of a trial by jury.
A bill of attainder does not necessarily entail a death sentence.  In Robinson’s case, it just means “disappearing” from public sight, as dissidents did in Argentina and Chile in the last century.
[...]
Robinson’s “trial” was more like a military “drum head” trial than a civilian trial.
Frankly, the prohibition of all news about his arrest does not even constitute a “D-notice,” but rather a plain case of classic railroading to get rid of someone likely to shed light on the 40 years of Muslim grooming and the Sharia enslaving of British girls and children in a vast prostitution ring about which the government had done little or nothing.

Tommy Robinson and 1984

by Joshua Winston, Jihad Watch:

The year is 2018, but we might as well be living in 1984. For anyone not familiar with George Orwell’s book, he predicted a time when words would lose their meaning, and media outlets would deliberately feed us lies and distort truths in order to subdue the masses, brainwash us, and attempt to turn people against one another.
He was right about the lies and the double-speak:
  • Islam is a religion of peace.
  • Terrorists are perverting a beautiful religion.
And the media:
  • The biggest threat our country faces is from white far-right extremists.
  • Islamic terrorist attacks are carried out by lone wolves.
  • The majority of the communities are unaware of the rape gangs.
  • The killers were not real Muslims.
In George Orwell’s 1984, there are cameras everywhere. In his book, while you are watching TV, the TV is also watching you. This is true of our computing systems. The cameras on our monitors are able to be accessed in order to watch us in our rooms. Our locations can be traced via our electronic devices, also. There’s no hiding in today’s age of surveillance.
...In 1984, there is a group of people who are referred to as “proles,” those members of the general public who are still asleep or too busy being brainwashed by lies or fighting over sale items in clothing shops, or who are simply apathetic with regard to politics. But when Tommy Robinson started speaking, a lot of proles woke up and started supporting him. The proles, in 1984, are the 85% of the population that the main character, Winston, wishes would wake up. A revolt by the proles, he says in the book, would bring the censorial dictatorship of the governmental system crashing down, and people could be free to enjoy life again. How many people are awake and speaking up in Britain today? What percentage does it feel like? How many feel safe to do so?

Tommy Robinson will be the UK’s tipping point

by Joshua Winston, Jihad Watch:

After each Islamic terrorist atrocity, I keep wondering, WHAT will tip the scales? We are becoming inured to terrorism and bloodshed. Terror attacks are as normal an event as a clock ticking in the UK today...
What will make the people rise up out of their armchairs and realise that hashtags and candles and politicians aren’t fixing the problem? I was still wondering what the tipping point would be until Saturday, 26th May, 2018, when I went to a Free Tommy rally outside of 10 Downing Street. Tommy Robinson is the answer to my question. Tommy Robinson’s well-being will be the tipping point in the UK for authorities, police and politicians, and if they’re smart they’ll take notice of this.
If the government were at all smart and strategic, they would hire Tommy Robinson as an adviser on terrorism. He has consistently identified extremists, because he grew up among them in Luton. He has consistently told us the names of the mosques that are churning out radicals, as well as naming the imams. He has been right time after time, and instead of hiring Tommy (whose information could contribute to keeping us all safe), our government bent down to the MCB and MEND, both of whom have ties to extremists...

"Tommy this, an' Tommy that ...an' Tommy go away"

by Mark Steyn - In a wide ranging and withering take down of the British totalitarians, Mr. Steyn finally turns his searing analysis to the misplaced priorities of the British legal system, who are more concerned with Tommy Robinson defaming Muslims, than with thousands of schoolgirls being groomed and raped for years by Muslim pedophile rape gangs:

It is striking to read Judge Norton's sentencing remarks from last year (Judge Marson's do not appear to be available: he rules in darkness). Her Honor huffs and puffs about Mr Robinson referring to "Muslim paedophiles" and "Muslim child rapists". I can appreciate that that might be vaguely annoying if one were a non-paedophile Muslim - although evidently not so annoying that spokespersons for the wider Muslim community ever rouse themselves to object to all the industrial-scale sex slavery. But it is a fact that in 21st-century England - in Yorkshire, in Shropshire, in Lancashire, in Oxfordshire, in the Home Counties - child-rape gangs are Muslim. It is a phenomenon, one that has never existed previously in the British Isles and one which will continue and metastasize until there is honest debate about it.
And, while Judge Norton is evidently outraged by Tommy Robinson's ill manners in referring to Muslims who rape children as "Muslim child rapists", one notices that neither she nor anybody else display any such outrage about the ruined lives of thousands of victims of men who get away with their evil for years ...because officialdom has chosen to prioritize "Islamophobia" over real crimes.
