Church of St Nicholas Desecrated in Tatarstan

Graffiti jihad against Christians, possibly motivated by the Muslim Brotherhood attacks on Christians in Egypt (which have seen numerous cases of graffiti attacks on churches), though not (yet) of the same ferocity.

A church was desecrated in the metropolia of Tatarstan. The Church of St Nicolas the Wonder-worker has been desecrated in the village of Petropavlovskaya Sloboda in the Novosheshminsk district of the Diocese of Chistopol. On the night of August 14 to 15, unidentified people desecrated the icons on the front of the Church. Specifically, the vandals covered in graffiti images and names of Saints.

The criminal case in charges of vandalism has been initiated and the investigation is being held.

St Nicolas Church in the village of Petropavlovskaya Sloboda was constructed in 2013. On May 29, it was consecrated at a service headed by Metropolitan Anastasy of Kazan and Tatarstan. The population of Tatarstan is predominantly Moslem.
